Meritain Health covers a wide range of addiction and mental health treatment services. Again, the level of coverage and types of services included in your coverage will depend on your chosen plan. Coverage levels may also vary based on whether the rehab you choose is an in-network or out-of-network facility. Some insurance companies will provide lower coverage levels or decline to cover services provided by an out-of-network provider. Additionally, services delivered by an out-of-network provider generally require per-approval or pre-authorization before services begin. As previously noted, Meritain Health provides coverage for several levels of care and treatment services. Examples of treatment options that may be partially or fully covered using your Meritain Health plan include:

Residential rehab

Inpatient or residential rehab programs require you to “live” at the facility for the duration of your treatment. Services may include behavioral therapies, detox, and 24/7 access to medical staff who are there to help and guide you throughout each stage of your journey to sobriety. Meritain Health may limit the number of days you can attend inpatient rehab to a set number per calendar year.

Detoxification

Detoxification programs provide support as your body learns how to function without drugs or alcohol. At a rehab specializing in medically supervised detox, you will receive medical supervision throughout the detox process. Depending on your unique needs and the program’s design, this may include medication administration to help you manage and reduce the intensity of withdrawal symptoms.

Mental health treatment services

Many who have a drug or alcohol use disorder also have a co-occurring mental health condition. Also referred to as a dual diagnosis, you struggle with symptoms of a drug or alcohol addiction and a mental health disorder such as depression, anxiety, mood disorders, or post-traumatic stress disorder. Data released by the National Survey on Drug Use and Health indicate more than 8 million US adults have a dual diagnosis disorder.

The symptoms of dual diagnosis conditions are often highly intertwined. Therefore, each dramatically impacts the other. As a result, treating one without addressing the other significantly increases your chances of symptom relapse. Under regulations set forth by the Affordable Care Act, insurance providers are required to provide coverage for substance use disorder treatment and treatment for mental health conditions. Many Meritain Health plans provide benefits for mental health treatment while participating in addiction treatment to ensure the most significant opportunities for positive treatment outcomes and an improved quality of life post-treatment.

Meritain Health also provides coverage for other treatment services, including outpatient rehab and addiction and mental health treatment elements that are part of aftercare programs. Outpatient programs are often used as transitional or step-down treatment after completing a primary, inpatient addiction treatment program. Outpatient drug and alcohol rehab programs allow you to live at home while attending therapy during the day. Depending on your plan type, Meritain Health may limit the number of days you can participate in outpatient treatment to a certain number each year.

Your plan may also cover ongoing therapy, medical appointments, and other treatment needs related to your recovery. Before you choose a treatment program or begin treatment, it is essential to meet with an admissions advisor for an assessment. During an assessment, members of your treatment team will conduct a series of tests and evaluations to determine the appropriate level of care to help you meet your treatment goals. 

Once the assessment is complete, they will recommend a treatment program for you based on several factors unique to you, such as the severity of your addiction, the presence of a co-occurring disorder, and your history with addiction and addiction treatment.
