Welcome to Ocean Coast Recovery

introduction to Cocaine

Some individuals are able to use drugs and alcohol recreationally without experiencing consequences to their use. Those who are living with a substance use disorder often cannot control their use, have been unsuccessful in their attempts to stop using, have experienced an array of consequences, and are needing help.

Addiction treatment programs can provide you with the knowledge, support, and encouragement you need in the beginning of your recovery. If you have tried looking for rehab programs near you and found yourself overwhelmed, know that that is a common experience. Narrowing down treatment providers can be confusing if you are unfamiliar with the different levels of care, and have an idea of what kind of program you need at that time.

Ocean Coast Recovery is a Huntington Beach cocaine rehab center mere steps from the beach. Our Huntington Beach drug rehab program offers detoxification and inpatient rehab programming to support you in the beginning stages of your recovery. With a personalized treatment plan, you will receive the compassion and support you need at this point in your journey. What Is Cocaine?

Cocaine is a popular stimulant used across the globe. The National Institute on Drug Abuse reported that approximately 5.2 million individuals in the United States reported using cocaine during the year of 2020. An estimated 1.3 million of the individuals who used cocaine in 2020 were living with a cocaine use disorder.

Cocaine is commonly cut with other white powders, which can include powerful opioids such as fentanyl. This increases a person’s risk of overdosing. In 2020, there were 19,447 individuals who had a fatal overdose involving cocaine.

If you have been struggling to limit or stop your use of cocaine, you may benefit from a Huntington Beach-based cocaine addiction treatment center. the affect of cocaine

How Does Cocaine Affect the Body?

The way that cocaine is used contributes to some of the differences you may see in how your body is impacted by your cocaine use. As an example, someone who uses cocaine intravenously may have more bruising, collapsed veins, or transmitted infections and diseases. Smoking can cause damage to an individual’s mouth, whereas snorting is known to damage a person’s nasal cavity.

Regardless of how a person uses cocaine, the impact on their brains will be similar. Once cocaine is ingested, our brains are told to release more dopamine. Dopamine is a naturally occurring chemical in our brain that contributes to feelings of pleasure and euphoria. The increase of dopamine after using cocaine leads to feelings of euphoria which can increase a person’s desire to continue cocaine use. As a person’s use of cocaine continues, the amount of dopamine released increases.

Your brain will continue to release a surge of dopamine when you first stop using, and needs time with you not using to recognize that it needs to decrease the amount of dopamine it releases. This shift is a contributing factor to the presence of withdrawal symptoms when you stop using. Detox programs will monitor your withdrawal symptoms and work with you to provide relief where possible.
